Spotlight: Has not looked back since a tongue-tie went on, ending 2024 with a 6f nursery win and adding a 5f handicap at Chester's May meeting; in the frame in 5f handicaps at Ascot on his last two starts (both good to firm), faring best of those drawn around him on both occasions; continues to edge up the weights but he's drawn near some good pace today and leaves the impression there's an even bigger effort lurking.
Spotlight: Two 5f wins as 2yo; confirmed promise of her Windsor reappearance by readily seeing off her 23 rivals at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm); beaten favourite in a Sandown Group 3 next time and held by Shagraan on that form; on the plus side, she's still low mileage and could yet have a bigger run in her.
Spotlight: Saw off 15 rivals when winning the 3yo C&D handicap at this meeting 12 months ago (good to firm); added a Class 2 handicap at Haydock last September and he's only 3lb higher today; beaten four times this season but he's run crackers on each occasion, latterly keeping on well in a Sandown Group 3; looks rock solid to run well.
Spotlight: Modest strike-rate but his last two runs have offered much more encouragement when fifth at Newcastle (ridden prominently) and then behind a couple of reopposing rivals at Ascot 17 days ago (more patiently ridden); that latest run, where he tanked through the race before meeting trouble 1f out and then again when switched right inside the final furlong, looks in need of a big upgrade and he's a fascinating contender.
Spotlight: Her three handicap wins have all come over C&D on good ground or slower; it was only a 0-88 that she won here on her reappearance in May but she fairly bolted up, easing her way into contention from well off the pace and skipping clear inside the final furlong; reverted to front-running in an Ayr Listed event last month but overdid things and dropped away late on; 11lb higher than for May's win but still a strong contender if the ground doesn't dry out too much.
Spotlight: Beaten a nose in a similar C&D handicap 12 months ago (front two clear); better than ever when winning at Southwell on her return in March but looked in the handicapper's grip before appearing to show marked improvement when second in a York Listed event 17 days ago (5f, good to firm); she should still be a contender despite a 9lb hike if that form is taken at face value, but others have more pressing claims.
Spotlight: Huge improver this year, winning a 5f handicap at Carlisle in emphatic fashion on his return in May and adding further success at Thirsk (6f, good) and Hamilton (5f, good) last month; came unstuck in his bid for a four-timer at the Curragh (6.3f, good) ten days ago but he helped force a strong pace and that probably isn't the race to use as evidence he's now in the handicapper's grip; return to 5f is fine and he's not ruled out.
Spotlight: Impressive in a 5f handicap at Ayr last month but he dominated a small field on that occasion and he's since come up short off his revised mark at Doncaster; tough task in this company.
Spotlight: Did well for Robert Cowell last year, winning a handicap at Chester's May meeting and a Beverley Listed event (both 5f; good and good to firm but handles any ground); has not quite hit those heights this year but he's slipped in the weights and should give it a good go from the front.
Spotlight: Came from off the pace to win a C&D handicap in May (good ground; now 1lb lower); not so good since and although there have been excuses, others look more appealing in this field.
Spotlight: Won narrowly at York 18 days ago (5f, good to firm) but it was his best run for some time and he isn't handicapped out of things up just 3lb; first visit to Goodwood but he has won at Epsom and he's one of two solid contenders for Ruth Carr.
Spotlight: Better than ever this year, winning 5f handicaps at Newmarket and Windsor (twice); unable to dominate at York last time and that might be the case here too; perhaps too high in the weights for a race of this nature now.
Spotlight: Took well to cheekpieces when winning at Newmarket 11 days ago (5f, good to firm) and a 4lb rise still sees him 3lb lower than when third at this meeting 12 months ago; it's likely a few of today's rivals will have his measure though.
Spotlight: Has plenty of solid form at this track and he has run well to finish second at Pontefract this year, the latter occasion just 11 days ago; on a dangerous mark but drying ground probably not ideal at this sharp track.
Spotlight: This year's five wins have all come over 5f on Newcastle AW; modest strike-rate on turf and although he wasn't well drawn at Ascot last time, there's no obvious reason why he'd reverse those placings with Redorange who was also drawn low.
Spotlight: Knocking at the door of late, including over C&D, and ran well at this meeting 12 months ago; out of the weights and needs a clear personal best to take this.
Spotlight: Scaled new heights this season, winning twice on good ground in the spring and recording a personal best when a close second at Ascot 17 days ago; had a good draw and was always well positioned on that occasion; no banker to confirm the placings with either Redorange or Jakajaro.
Spotlight: Has not shone in previous visits to Goodwood; the form of his latest comfortable Newbury success (5f, good to firm) has been boosted since but he's now 9lb higher in a much better race (3lb out of handicap); others appeal more.
Spotlight: Won the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes as a 2yo (5f, good to soft) and his two wins since have been in Group 3 and Listed events; drew a blank in 2024 but retained ability and he shaped really well on his second run for new connections when second of 11 at Epsom on Derby day (6f, soft), doing best of the prominent racers in a race that has worked out well; quick enough to deal with the return to 5f but the possible drying ground will suit others more.
Spotlight: Three 5f wins this year, one of them on turf, but looks high enough in the weights for a race like this and his stable looks to hold stronger claims elsewhere.
Spotlight: Three wins this year and he ran creditably over C&D in May; not so good at Newmarket last time, however, and looks up against it in this field.
Spotlight: Prolific on turf in Sweden, 3-3 this year (twice 6f on good to soft and once 7f on good); drops to 5f at a sharp track and likely to find this different to anything he's faced before.

The best pace looks to be on either flank, so the field could split into two groups. The admirable Shagraan looks booked for another big run, while Canon's House may resume his progress back at 5f and Enchanting's C&D win in May was so striking that she also has to enter the reckoning. The Ascot handicap in which Reigning Profit finished in front of Redorange (second choice) and JAKAJARO (nap) could prove the key formline though. Everything went right for Reigning Profit there, whereas Redorange was poorly drawn (again) and Jakajaro ran into a world of trouble from just over 1f out. Second guessing how much horse Jamie Spencer had left under him is a tricky business but Jakajaro did travel notably well before finding the traffic and the suspicion is he would have been heavily involved in the finish with a clear run. He can gain compensation off the same mark.[Paul Smith] Show less
